The Jolly Postman

In our first lesson, we received an exciting parcel. We discussed who it could be from and what might be inside. We opened it to find a book and a letter from the Jolly postman, inviting us to find out more about his book and his job.

The first letter that The Jolly Postman delivered was to the 3 bears. It was a letter from Goldilocks, apologising for everything she had done. We decided to write a letter back to Goldilocks, forgiving her.

We discussed The Jolly Postman’s journey to the 3 little bears house and what he might encounter on the way. We drew pictures to show our ideas.

The next person that The Jolly Postman delivered a letter to, was the Witch from Hansel and Gretel. The letter was a flyer with lots of items a Witch might like to buy. We chose a product and wrote a letter back to the company explains why we wanted to buy that product.

We discussed The Jolly Postman’s journey to the Witch’s house and what he might encounter on the way. We drew pictures of these things and how they differed to the journey to the bears house previously.

We created our own products for a witch and made some posters to advertise our products explains why she should buy them.

Today, The Jolly Postman delivered a letter to the Giant from Jack and The Beanstalk. Jack had sent the Giant a postcard from his holidays. We spoke about why we send postcards and discussed the format and how this is different to a letter. We then worked together to write a postcard back to Jack from the Giant.

We discussed the journey to the Giants house and how this was very different to the previous journeys. We then drew pictures to add to our working wall.

The next fairy tale character to receive a letter was Cinderella. Her letter was from a publisher, wanting to release a story about Cinderella. We got into groups and chose a part of the Cinderella to recreate using drawings.

We added Cinderella’s house and drawings to our story map.

This week, The Jolly Postman visited Goldilocks at her party. At the party, there were lots of characters from nursery rhymes. We reminded ourselves of these nursery rhymes and then developed some performances to go alongside them.

We have began to make the characters’ houses from the story. We have used our knowledge of the characters to draw the features of each house, including the interior.
