Parliament Week

Human Rights

We were learning about human rights, including the right to education. We understand human rights are there to protect everyone and can explain why education is important and is included as a human right and why individuals campaign for causes they believe in.

National Democracy

We were trying to understand how Government works in the United Kingdom and identify some roles in Government. We were even given the opportunity to explain some ideas we have for the Government.

Fairtrade Fortnight

Food choices and the environment.

We talked about environmental issues relating to food and food production. We are able to explain what people can do to overcome environmental issues relating to food and explain some possible consequences to changing behaviour and food choices.

School Diversity Week

Caring for others

We spent some time thinking about the people and things we care about and understand that we have responsibilities for other people and living things. Through the circles of care activity we can explain how we care about things in my day to day life and can explain the issues or causes we care about.

Prejudice and discrimination

We learnt and now understand what prejudice and discrimination are and why they are wrong. We watched a video about Martin Luther King and Bayard Rustin which was very informative. Through different scenarios we can now explain how we might challenge prejudice and discrimination.

Valuing Diversity

We talked about different people that we admire and understand the contribution that people with protected characteristics bring to society. We spent some time identifying a range of role models with different characteristics and can explain how knowing more about people can overcome prejudice. In groups we researched some individuals;

  • Martin Luther King Jnr
  • Margaret Thatcher
  • Mary Seacole
  • Ellie Simmonds
  • Alan Turing
