The Circulatory System
The Circulatory System
Our first lesson all about the circulatory system was to discover the different parts that make up the blood. We wrote Haiku poems all about the roles of the red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets and drew detailed sketches.
We revisited what we had learnt about the digestive system in previous years to help us fully understand how the nutrients and vitamins we eat gets absorbed by our blood and transported around the body.
This week we were fortunate enough to have a visit from local A&E Doctor, Dr Lewis. He brought a cow heart with him for us to look at. He modelled how it would pump the blood around the body and showed us clearly what the heart looked like as well as giving us the opportunity to touch it ourselves and ask questions.
Following our visit from Dr Lewis we drew a scientific diagram of the heart and then labelled it correctly.
It is important we understand our responsibility in keeping our heart healthy. We conducted an experiment learning about the effect of exercise on our heart rate and then discussed the negative effects of an unhealthy diet and lack of exercise. To pull all our learning together we made a persuasive leaflet to persuade others to keep their heart healthy too.
