Biographies

We began learning about Jesse Owens and his personal and professional life. We initially looked at the Berlin Olympics and what impact it had on his life. We looked in to the structure of biographies using his as an example.

We moved on to our class text for this term which is The Undefeated by Alexander Kwame. We listened to the authors moving reading of the poem and spent some time matching up pictures from the book to matching background information.

We chose some of the people from the book that we were interested in and researched about their life. Reviewing Jesse Owens biography gave us the opportunity to learn about how they are structured and this directed what our research was.

From our research we then wrote detailed biographies about a range of influential musicians, sportsmen and artists. We wrote our biographies to include what we'd learnt in grammar; adverbials and conjunctions and cohesion between paragraphs.

We asked the question if the book were British who would we include. After researching the Bristol Boycott we decided to write a letter to the Prime Minster of what we imagined for a brighter world and used the subjunctive form.
