Families and Relationships

Respect

We started the lesson thinking about someone the children respected. Each child was given a piece of paper and wrote down why they respected that person. We crumpled them up and threw them to someone else to read out.

We reflected on some of the people we identified as people we respect and compared whether they had anything in common (for example, parents, teachers, celebrities, sports personalities).

We talked about whether there are other groups of people we think should be respected in society (for example, police, doctors, people in the forces, older people) and why. We learnt that respect for people in authority is usually a good thing. We should still continue to respect people in authority, even if an individual person does something to lose our respect.

Respectful Relationships

We understand respect is an important part of relationships and explain how we want to be respected. We discussed how we should treat others how we expect to be treated ourselves.

Resolving Conflict

We spent a lot of time discussing different scenarios where conflict may arise and role playing different strategies to manage certain conflict. We learnt the key terms and can successfully describe what negotiate and compromise mean.

Change and Loss

This was a really sensitive subject to learn about. We talked about loss and how it can change and cause a range of emotions and explain what grief means. We looked at different situations and understand that it is different for different people in different situations.

School Diversity Week

As part of school diversity week we learned about Stereotypes and how to challenge them.

We understand that stereotypes can influence us without us really realising. We looked at different videos to explore our own opinions on a subject and showed that we respected others. We thought about an issue that we felt strongly about before writing a pledge of action to make changes happen.

We spent some time discussing a range of stereotypes and created a poster to encourage people to think about how ridiculous stereotypes can be.
