In the first two lessons of our topic, we carried out some experiments and took part in some investigations on various pneumatic systems. We then wrote up some recounts on what we had experienced and learnt.

This week we began our designs for our moving monsters. We learnt what thumbnail sketches and exploded diagrams are and how to use these to design products. We also wrote a design criteria to specify what we wanted our end product to look like and do. We will use this design criteria to assess and modify our final products.
Today we started to assemble and decorate our moving monsters. We started by discussing which box we wanted to choose according to its size, it’s practicality for what we wanted our monster to look like and if it was suitable for a pneumatic system to fit inside. We worked together to write out a list of all the resources we would need and collected these ready for our lesson.
Today we assembled the pneumatic system for our moving monsters. Through problem solving and trial and error we successfully made our monsters move. A challenge we found during the assembly was that we had to use a lot of tape to ensure the system was air tight. If t wasn’t the mechanism didn’t work.

Today, we evaluate our final designs against our design criteria that we has developed at the beginning of the project. We spoke about what went well, what did not go well and what we would do differently next time. We then got own partner to evaluate our product as well.
