Percy Jackson and the Lightning thief and Greek Myths
To hook into our learning we have been researching the 12 Greek Olympians.
Chapter 1 Discussion
What is the difference between a narrator and the author? A narrator is who is telling the story but the author has written it. |
How does this chapter hook the reader? Does it make you want to read more? |
The mystery of the non-existent teacher at the end of the chapter leaves us wanting to read more. |
What links to Greek mythology are made? In the chapter they mentioned Gods and Titans and half-bloods among others. What do you think of a modern setting for mythical characters? We think it's interesting because there are features of ancient times in the modern museum which links other books that we've read. |
What mysteries are raised in this first chapter?
What questions do you have?
What do you think may happen next? We think Mr Brunner may be a Greek god. We think that Percy is going to be fighting more monsters. |
What do you think of having Percy Jackson as the narrator? We think it's a good choice because it shows us his perspective because it happened to him so we're getting a first person account. How might this affect the story and the way it is told? |
Because of his age it makes it more personable to us and is more informal and funny.
Which main characters are introduced?
|
What elements of danger are introduced? The ballpoint pen turning into a sword. The thunder and change in the weather might show that Zeus is angry. The threat of monsters from the blurb and because Mrs Dodds changed into a monster from human form the fact that they can hide is terrifying. |
